When 30 is better than 70

Mum was admitted to the hospital day surgery ward this morning for an angiogram because the doctor was not able to detect why her heart was behaving abnormally despite doing the ECG and treadmill tests.

At bright morning 7.30am, we arrived at the hospital all anxious and it wasn't difficult to see how jittery Dad was. We had a legitimate reason to be worried: If the angiogram shows complications of the heart, mum would have to go for a further heart operation and that itself involves risks.

So after waiting for a reasonable amount of time, Mum was sent into the theatre for her angiogram and it took only 40 mins for the results to be out. We were all brimming with joys of tears when the result highlighted that whilst one of her arteries had a 30% blockage , it didn't warrant for an operation (apparently only with a 70% blockage will the doc operate), but she would have to be on daily medication.

Thank God!

Mum was then wheeled back to her ward for 4 hours rest before she was allowed to be discharged. I asked her a silly question which of course she had to give me the most predictable answer in reply.

"Which is more painful, this or childbirth"
"childbirth lah, its like you are being ripped apart"
"......"

Now I have find ways to to coax/force/induce her to take her medication :)

try telling your mom:" Haven't even carried your grandkids in your arms yet? Still dun want to watch your own health?" [All in hokkien] .. and I bet my soul they will be very prompt in doing whatever they should be ;o)

At least it worked really fine for my parents. Hahah ...
